The host university provides a free of charge practice and the abroad expenses are provided by the Campus Mundi scholarship opportunity, with individual application. They expect a minimum C1 level of English language use, in the second round a video interview takes place with the students. The criteria for applying are a written application and an oral hearing following it. The School’s Committee on International Affairs choose these students every November. In April 2018 Teresa Cook, Director of Medical Education Administration at the Keck School of Medicine of USC visited our School.įour students can be admitted, mixed from the Hungarian, English and German programmes. They participated in guiding the students and they organised programmes for them as well. The active and enthusiastic members of the West Coast Club of Hungarian Scientists helped establish the relationship they are doctors and engineers graduated in Hungary. The University of Pécs Medical School is the first and only in the country from where four medical students had the opportunity to apply for the two-month professional practice. A three-year long work has preceded the establishment of this relationship. To date he has authored and co-authored more than 170 scholarly articles.Our School’s students had the opportunity for the first time to complete a two-month professional practice at the clinics of the University of Southern California (Keck School of Medicine – USA). Schönthal’s current research at USC uses preclinical models to pursue the development of novel agents and novel delivery methods toward improved cancer therapeutic regimens, in particular for cancer types that originate in the brain or migrate there from systemic origins. He joined USC as an Assistant Professor in 1992 and later was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. He performed his postdoctoral work at UC San Diego’s Cancer Center, where he worked in the areas of molecular and cellular cancer biology. Schönthal received dual master’s degrees in biology and education at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, followed by a doctoral degree at the Institute of Genetics at the University of Karlsruhe, based on his study of oncogenes. Schönthal has also been named a KSOM CET (Center for Excellence in Teaching) Fellow. Schönthal is an associate professor in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Keck School and has served for many years as Director of the MMI Master’s Degree Program. He will be a member of the Office for Health and Biomedical Science Education, where he will report to Vice Dean Peggy Farnham, PhD. Axel Schönthal, PhD, was appointed Associate Dean for Biomedical Master’s Degree Programs at the Keck School of Medicine, effective March 1.
